Website design in Monaco
A website in Monaco is not prepared quite like one in France. The language and VAT don’t change. The law on your legal notices and your data does. And a very common payment provider is not listed there. Here is what we look at before pricing a website for a Monaco business.
What your website must display
Article 33 of Law 1.383 sets the list. It depends on your legal form.
| You are | To make available to the public |
|---|---|
| A sole proprietor | Surname, first names, home address, phone number, and registration number if you are required to register. If you work from home, your personal address therefore becomes public. |
| A company | Company name, registered office, phone number and, where applicable, registration number and share capital. |
| In both cases | Name of the publication director, then the name, address and phone number of the provider referred to in Article 31 of the same law. Ask your adviser who that means for your website. |
The RCI number reassures, if you have one
The Trade and Industry Register (RCI) covers commercial activities. Craft and liberal professions are not entered in it. It can be consulted online at no charge: a careful client can therefore check your number.
What we do, and what we don’t
We plan these spaces in the website, with a first text to complete. We are not lawyers: you have it reviewed before going live.
Your contact form already collects data
In Monaco, the reference text is Law 1.565 of 3 December 2024, and the authority is the APDP. Article 11 requires informing people at the time of collection: who collects, why, on what basis, for how long, and what their rights are.
Three points to raise with your adviser
- Does your provider process data on your behalf? Article 26 requires a written contract.
- In the event of a breach, Article 32 provides for notification to the authority, within 72 hours where possible, unless the risk to people is unlikely.
- Do you also sell to people in the European Union? Ask whether the GDPR applies as well. Monaco is not on the European Commission’s adequacy list, which can matter when a French client sends you data.
Choose payment before designing the shop
This is the point that surprises people most. A shop designed for a provider that is unavailable in Monaco has to be redone. Here is what we read on . These lists change: check them on the day you decide.
| Method | For a business established in Monaco |
|---|---|
| Stripe | Monaco is not in the list of countries, whereas France and Italy are. |
| PayPal | Monaco appears in its fee schedule: 3.40% plus a fixed fee (€0.35 for payments in euros), for a payment from the European Economic Area. |
| SEPA transfer | Monaco is part of the SEPA area. Simple for an invoice, less so for a shopping cart. |
| Your bank in Monaco | Ask whether it offers an online payment terminal, and at what price. |
What if it’s an app?
A client file, case tracking or a portal almost always contains personal data. The questions above therefore come earlier: where the data is hosted, who can access it, who is responsible if something goes wrong.
For a specific need, such as tracking orders or replacing a spreadsheet, the simple business tool starts at €1,000 excl. VAT. With user accounts, several roles, payment or a chatbot, the custom app starts at €2,000 excl. VAT.
Before you write to us
- Who will use it: your team, your clients, or both?
- What data will go into it, and which of it is sensitive for you?
- Does existing software already do the essentials? If so, keep it.

Frequently asked questions
Does my website need to show an RCI number?
If your business is commercial, yes: Law 1.383 requires the registration number when you are subject to registration. Craft and liberal professions are not entered in this register. If you are unsure about your case, ask the Direction du Développement Économique or your adviser.
Can I use Stripe for a shop in Monaco?
Monaco does not appear in the list of Stripe countries that we read. Opening an account through an entity located elsewhere is another question, to discuss with your adviser. So we look at payment methods with you before building the shop.
Is a French legal notice template suitable?
No, not as it is. It cites other laws and other authorities. A business established in Monaco starts from Law 1.383 for its legal notices and from Law 1.565 for its data.
Can we meet in Monaco?
Our address does not receive visitors for meetings. The work is done remotely, in writing and by video call if needed. If a meeting matters for your project, say so in your message.
